The Book of Optics

The Book of Optics (Persian: Ketāb e Manzarehā (کتاب منظره ها) Arabic: Kitāb al-Manāẓir‎ (كتاب المناظر); Latin: De Aspectibus or Opticae Thesaurus: Alhazeni Arabis) was a seven-volume treatise on optics, physics, mathematics, anatomy

and psychology written by the Muslim scientist, Ibn al-Haytham (in Europe, Latinized as Alhacen or Alhazen), from 1011 to 1021, when he was under house arrest in Cairo, Egypt.

The book had an important influence on the development of optics, as it laid the foundations for modern physical optics after drastically transforming the way in which light and vision had been understood, and on science in general with its introduction of the experimental

scientific method. With this new-found revolutionized view of light and vision, this book is actually the first ever effort in recorded human history that is indirectly paving the way to the birth of motion picture.

That is why I choose the blog title as The Book of Optics. In this blog, I will share with you all of the recommended movies for your viewing pleasure. Coming Soon: The Last Station

The Last Station is an upcoming German

biographical film about Leo Tolstoy, based on a 1990 biographical novel of the same name by Jay Parini. It stars Christopher Plummer as Tolstoy.

It premiered at the 200 Telluride Film Festival.

Sony Pictures Classic acquired distribution rights and plans to give the film an awards-qualifying limited run on December 23, 2009, with a wider release in early 2010.

It is also scheduled to be released in Germany on January 21, 2010.

Plot

Set in the last tumultuous years of famed Russian author Leo Tolstoy's life, centers on the battle for his soul waged by his wife Sofya Andreyevna and his leading disciple Vladimir Cherkov. Torn between his professed doctrine of poverty and chastity and the reality of his enormous wealth, his thirteen children and a life of hedonism, Tolstoy makes a dramatic flight from his home. Too ill to continue beyond the tiny rail station at Astapovo, he believes that he is dying alone, while over one hundred newspapermen camp outside awaiting hourly reports on his condition.
